Media Literacy and Countering Disinformation within the Bulgarian Community in Moldova

The project “Media Literacy and Countering Disinformation within the Bulgarian Community in

Moldova” is a two-month initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of the Bulgarian

community in the Republic of Moldova against disinformation, propaganda, and externalinformation influence. Activities will be carried out in key localities with compact Bulgarian

populations: Chișinău, Taraclia, Tvardița, Corten, Valea-Perjei, Kirsovo, Comrat, and Ceadîr-Lunga

The main goal of the project is to enhance critical thinking and media culture among young

Bulgarians while promoting the use of the Bulgarian language in modern educational and digital

environments. The specific objectives include:

1. 2. 3. creating and disseminating innovative media content in Bulgarian (10 video materials

and Moldova’s first educational comic) that explains the main forms of disinformation

and methods for identifying them;

conducting interactive school-based trainings and hackathons with the participation of

students, teachers, and local journalists;

encouraging the active use of the Bulgarian language in educational, cultural, and online

formats.

The project will involve at least 500 students and over 20 teachers who will participate in the

training activities. Indirect beneficiaries include more than 50 000 members of the Bulgarian

community who will access the video materials through national television and online platforms,

as well as the printed comic. The project addresses key needs of the community — lack of

educational resources in Bulgarian, low media literacy among youth, and high vulnerability to

disinformation. It establishes a sustainable foundation for modern media education in the

Bulgarian language, increases public awareness, and supports the development of an informed,

active, and resilient young generation within the Bulgarian community of Moldova.
